Abstract

Upper echelons theory (UET) and dynamic managerial capability (DMC) theory
emphasize that managerial traits of upper echelons estimate corporate strategies and
performance. Following Tasheva and Nielsen’s (2020) pioneer study on the role of

innovation performance. By analyzing the panel data for 165 listed Chinese
manufacturing firms with international R&D investment within 2008-2020, the
research develops the first year-on-year composite GDMC indices incorporating both
objective and subjective weights and unfolds that both the overall GDMC and the
three GDMC underpinnings, namely, international human capital, international social

manufacturing industry. T
