Abstract

Academic dishonesty in higher education is getting worse and worse. Although we have introduced a series of laws, regulations and policies, the effect seems to be unsatisfactory. Perhaps it is because we have not explored in depth the root causes of academic dishonesty intentions among students in different disciplines. This study adopts a disciplinary approach, using the Theory of Planned Behavior (Ajzen, 1991) as the theoretical framework and focusing on the factors influencing academic dishonesty intentions. The data for this study primarily come from semi-structured interviews and the quality assessment of academic integrity documents. Based on focus group interviews and a pilot study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 24 undergraduates (from four grades and six language majors) and eight foreign language faculty members (from six language majors with more than five years of teaching experience).
